Pro-Greece, pro-Cyprus Candidate, Dr. John McGoff, seeks to defeat pro-Turkish Congressman Dan Burton

Pro-Turkish Congressman Dan Burton is facing a likely defeat from pro-Greece, pro-Cyprus candidate, Dr. John McGoff. 
 
Republican Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN-5) is facing a tough Republican primary challenge from Republican candidate Dr. John McGoff. The Indiana Congressional District 5 encompasses a portion of Indianapolis and 11 counties. Whoever wins the Republican primary, the candidate will win the general election.
 
Pro-Turkish Congressman Dan Burton is the Turkish Lobby’s front man in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Burton takes the exact positions of the Turkish Coalition of America, a Turkish government funded lobby headed by Lincoln McCurdy. Burton denies the Armenian Genocide in addition to the Greek and Assyrian Genocide of Asia Minor. Burton supports the illegal Turkish military occupation of Cyprus. Each July 20th, Burton states extremely pro-Turkish positions in supporting Turkey’s illegal military occupation. In his past July 21, 2009 speech, “THE BLAME GAME CONTINUES WITH REGARD TO CYPRUS”

He ignores clear facts of how the Turkish military invasion caused the current partition of Cyprus. He ignores the 180,000 Greek Cypriot refugees, over 500 destroyed Christian churches, thousands of murdered civilians by Turkey, hundreds of rapes by Turkish soldiers, and Turkey’s illegal forced apartheid and segregation of Cyprus. He even ignores the 40,000 illegal Turkish troops in the island of Cyprus. Burton joins pro-Turks such as former Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Jean Schmidt (R-OH), Michael McMahon (D-NY), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), Edward Whitfield (R-KY), etc in denying the current illegal Turkish military occupation of Cyprus and its illegal partition by Turkey. They blame the victims and ignore the crimes by Turkey inside Cyprus for more then 35 years.
 
The Sibel Edmonds story reveals Turkish government bribes to Congressman Dan Burton, Jean Schmidt, Dennis Hastert, and others that have surfaced. She was a former FBI translator who monitored Turkish sources on FBI tapped phones. She exposed Turkish bribery to Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN) (http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7387). Burton received massive amounts of Turkish money in various Turkish fundraisers since he has been in Congress. 
 
The Indiana Congressional District 5 has a historic Greek American community since 1910. There are over 2,000 Greek Americans in Dan Burton’s Indiana district. He completely ignores these constituents. However, Dr. John McGoff is running against Dan Burton in the Republican primary on May 4, 2010. He is running a strong campaign to defeat Burton on May 4th. Dr. McGoff is an ER medical doctor and military officer with the National Guard. In 2008, he garnered 45% of the vote and came within 3,000 votes to unseat Burton. McGoff was outspent 5 to 1 in 2008, but he obtained 45% of the vote. Dan Burton is not well liked in his district or by the Indiana Republican party.
 
In 2010, McGoff is running a campaign in an unpopular year for incumbent Congressmen. Burton risks strong chances of losing to pro-Greece, pro-Cyprus candidate McGoff. In a fundraising appeal letter, McGoff says, “Congressman Burton has long held pro Turkey position and has lashed out at both Greece and Cyprus on the floor of Congress and who has routinely voted against bills and proposals that would strengthen the bonds between Greece and the United States. This election is an important one for Greek-Americans because it gives us a chance to vote out members of Congress that have been in Washington, too long – and Dan Burton of Indiana is one of those members.” He said,” Dr. McGoff understands the importance of a strong Greek-American relationship and the consequences that this has on the region and the world. As a Colonel in the Air National Guard – who recently was confirmed by the United States Senate to be promoted to Brigadier General – he understands the long history of struggles Greece and Cyprus have had with Turkey. Dr. McGoff believes that a nation which is open, free and tolerant is the best type of government for its people, and that the similarities between the belief systems of Greece and America are to be cherished and celebrated. With your support today of $500, $100, or $50 Dr. McGoff can broadcast his message on television, radio and through the mail. Your support will also allow him to build the grassroots network necessary to defeat Congressman Burton in this primary election.” 
 
Dr. McGoff supports the withdrawal of the illegal Turkish occupation army from the Republic of Cyprus. He even supports Greek Cypriot refugees to return back to their homes and properties that were kicked out by the Turkish army on July 20, 1974. Dr. McGoff strongly advocates for the religious freedom of the Ecumenical Patriarchate based in Istanbul, Turkey. 
 
Burton is also anti-India, and anti-Armenia. The India PAC, Indian American Political Action Committee, is actively supporting the McGoff campaign with funds and votes. Burton’s pro-Pakistan support has created anti-India tirades in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In addition, the Armenian National Committee PAC endorsed John McGoff. He supports the Armenian Genocide Resolution. The Turkish Lobby continues to assist Burton’s reelection bid with thousands of dollars in his campaign coffers. 
 
The Greek American community in Indianapolis can prove as a swing vote to defeat Dan Burton on May 4th. A couple of hundred votes can determine a heated primary election on May 4th. NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) releases its own translation of the recent urgent press release from the METOPO student organization, representing the concerns of Greek Cypriot students and youth in regards to recent events between Chairman Christofias the Communist leader of Cyprus and Mr. Talat the agent of Turkey.

It is expected that this slap to the face would come (to Chairman Christofias). When he (Christofias) lends value and substance to the pseudo-state, why wouldn’t the European Union and the international community? When the Chairman of an independent, internationally recognized state does support outlaw states, and “candidate” outlaws of “elections” in his homeland, that take place in the illegally occupied territories of his homeland, why wouldn’t also heads of other states?
 
And who is the “candidate” that supports the Chairman of Democracy? Mehmet Ali Talat? He is one that states and declares that he is proud of his “armed past”, when he was a “mujahedeen” in the 77th Company of TMT (Turkish terrorist organization) and offered his services in the criminal enterprises of Operation Attila in 1974 (Turkish newspaper “[Zaman]”, 24/09/2006)? The one who attacked Greek-Cypriot students [propilakise] students of METOPO [KFIB] in London in December 2009? OR the one that will oppose, supposedly, the Turkish expansionist interests and will agree to a `fair, viable and [leitoyrgiki]' solution? A solution, in which he himself did declare, that he wishes confederation, but as cover “in order to we maintain the constructive ambiguity, we use term `bizonal bi-communal federation [omospondia]'"? (“Daily”, 11/05/2009) The “candidate” Talat supports also the Contacts, Support and Solidarity of the illegal Turkish settlers, while he himself Talat asks for the support of the grey wolves, the murderers of [isaak]-Solomos. Which common interest one wonders, does the Chairman of Democracy, Dimitris Christofias, have with the Turkish illegal settlers and their grey wolves, which support the “candidate”?
 
When he himself the Chairman of Cypriot Democracy, supports the “candidate” Talat, and makes common statements with him, despite reactions , and his responsibility in creating a climate of feigned progress, through “generous offers”, then it is expected for the support and promotion of “candidate” Talat from himself and the EU. The premature publication of the decision of [EDAD] for the “committee of compensations”, the likely or false recognition of the pseudo-state with the regulation on “direct trade” with the EU and the invitations for Talat in Spain and in Brussels are certainly characteristic examples. Moreover, the entanglement of the EU in this particular subject, does not only constitute “doping” in the “candidate” Talat, but causes serious complications in the solution of the Cypriot problem after which are removed and made useless the European arms from the coffers of Cypriot Democracy, to decrease any positive role, that it can play on the EU, on a fair solution, in the base beginnings. This is glaring by the fact that, we place as base of discussions the full implementation the international and European rights, we consider data that the solution presupposes divergences, granting him in turn the presidency, and the parked vote and the acceptance of 50.000 Turks colonists, from the first done stage of negotiations, the moment indeed where Talat ensures the illegal Turkish settlers that they will not leave now nor after the solution!
 
The METOPO of Cypriot Students United Kingdom clarifies that “it prefers” no one “candidate” for the said elections and considers each pseudo-president arrangement, as belonging to Turkey, it is simply a puppet. Pseudo-elections simply break with legality, the product of illegal Turkish occupation, which continues still in a country of Europe. The Cypriot problem is a problem of Turkish invasion and Turkish occupation and the guilty party is Turkey. The equitable conclusion of the Cypriot question, that is to say a solution `fair, viable and workable', a solution that will include the complete release of Cyprus, does not depend neither on [Talat] or [Eroglou], nor does it depend on the “good will of” Turkey. It exclusively depends on our own political leadership if it practices the pressures, via reliable allies, which will force out the occupation by Turkey, and if Turkey is moved from her imperialistic, expansionist plans and behaves in the framework of international legality.

Προς ταλατοποίηση του Κυπριακού προβλήματος

Θα έπρεπε να ήταν αναμενόμενα τα ραπίσματα. Όταν εμείς οι ίδιοι προσδίδουμε αξία και υπόσταση στο ψευδοκράτος, γιατί να μην προσδώσει η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και η διεθνής κοινότητα; Όταν ο Πρόεδρος ενός ανεξάρτητου, διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένου κράτους υποστηρίζει δημόσια, κάποιον «υποψήφιο» των παράνομων «εκλογών», οι οποίες λαμβάνουν χώρα στα κατεχόμενα εδάφη της πατρίδας του, γιατί να μην ασχοληθούν και αρχηγοί άλλων κρατών;
Και ποιός είναι ο «υποψήφιος» που υποστηρίζει ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας; Ο Μεχμέτ Αλί Ταλάτ; Αυτός που δημόσια δηλώνει πως είναι περήφανος για το «ένοπλο παρελθόν» του, όταν ήταν μουτζαχίντ στον 77ο Λόχο της ΤΜΤ και προσέφερε τις υπηρεσίες του στις πολεμικές επιχειρήσεις του Αττίλα το 1974 (τουρκική εφημερίδα «Ζαμάν», 24/09/2006); Αυτός που προπηλάκισε τους φοιτητές-μέλη του ΜΕΤΩΠΟΥ ΚΦΗΒ στο Λονδίνο τον Δεκέμβριο του 2009; Ή αυτός που θα εναντιωθεί, δήθεν, στα τουρκικά επεκτατικά συμφέροντα και θα συμφωνήσει για μια ‘δίκαιη, βιώσιμη και λειτουργική’ λύση; Μια λύση, για την οποία ο ίδιος δήλωσε, πως επιθυμεί συνομοσπονδία, αλλά «για να διατηρήσουμε την εποικοδομητική ασάφεια, χρησιμοποιούμε τον όρο ‘διζωνική δικοινοτική ομοσπονδία’»; («Καθημερινή», 11/05/2009) Την «υποψηφιότητα» Ταλάτ στηρίζει και ο Σύνδεσμος Στήριξης και Αλληλεγγύης των Τούρκων εποίκων, ενώ ο ίδιος ο Ταλάτ ζητάει την υποστήριξη και των γκρίζων λύκων, των δολοφόνων των Ισαάκ-Σολωμού. Τί κοινό συμφέρον έχει άραγε, ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας, Δημήτρης Χριστόφιας, με τους Τούρκους έποικους και τους γκρίζους λύκους, και υποστηρίζουν την ίδια «υποψηφιότητα»;
Όταν ο ίδιος ο Πρόεδρος της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, στηρίζει την «υποψηφιότητα» Ταλάτ, προβαίνοντας σε κοινές δηλώσεις μαζί του, παρά τις αντιδράσεις στο εσωτερικό μέτωπο, και δημιουργώντας κλίμα επίπλαστης προόδου, μέσα από «γενναιόδωρες προσφορές», τότε αναμενόμενη θα έπρεπε να θεωρείται η στήριξη και προώθηση της «υποψηφιότητας» Ταλάτ από την ίδια την ΕΕ. Η πρόωρη έκδοση της απόφασης του ΕΔΑΔ για την «επιτροπή αποζημιώσεων», η πιθανή ταϊβανοποίηση του ψευδοκράτους με τον κανονισμό για «απευθείας εμπόριο» με την ΕΕ και οι προσκλήσεις του Ταλάτ στην Ισπανία και στις Βρυξέλλες είναι μερικά χαρακτηριστικά παραδείγματα. Επιπλέον, η εμπλοκή της ΕΕ στο συγκεκριμένο θέμα, δεν αποτελεί μόνο «ντοπάρισμα» στην «υποψηφιότητα» Ταλάτ, αλλά προκαλεί σοβαρές επιπλοκές στη λύση του Κυπριακού προβλήματος αφού αφαιρούνται και αχρηστεύονται τα ευρωπαϊκά όπλα από την φαρέτρα της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, θέλοντας να μειώσουν τον οποιοδήποτε θετικό ρόλο, που μπορεί να διαδραματίσει η ΕΕ, για μια δίκαιη λύση, στη βάση των αρχών της. Αυτό εξυφαίνεται από το γεγονός ότι, αντί να θέτουμε ως βάση των συνομιλιών την πλήρη εφαρμογή του διεθνούς και ευρωπαϊκού δικαίου, θεωρούμε δεδομένο ότι η λύση προϋποθέτει αποκλίσεις, προτείνοντας την εκ περιτροπής προεδρία, τη σταθμισμένη ψήφο και την αποδοχή 50.000 Τούρκων εποίκων, από το πρώτο κιόλας στάδιο των διαπραγματεύσεων, τη στιγμή μάλιστα που ο Ταλάτ διαβεβαιώνει τους εποίκους ότι δεν θα φύγει ούτε ένας μετά τη λύση!
Το ΜΕΤΩΠΟ Κυπρίων Φοιτητών Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου ξεκαθαρίζει ότι δεν «προτιμά» κανένα «υποψήφιο» για τις λεγόμενες εκλογές και θεωρεί πως κάθε ψευδοπρόεδρος ενός καθεστώτος, το οποίο είναι υποχείριο της Τουρκίας, είναι απλώς μια μαριονέτα. Οι ψευδοεκλογές απλώς προσπαθούν να επικαλύψουν με νομιμότητα, το προϊόν της πιο βάρβαρης κατοχής, που συνεχίζει ακόμη σε χώρα της Ευρώπης. Το Κυπριακό πρόβλημα είναι πρόβλημα εισβολής και κατοχής και ο ένοχος είναι η Τουρκία. Η ορθή κατάληξη του Κυπριακού ζητήματος, δηλαδή μια λύση ‘δίκαιη, βιώσιμη και λειτουργική’, μια λύση που θα περιλαμβάνει την πλήρη απελευθέρωση της Κύπρου, δεν εξαρτάται ούτε από τον Ταλάτ ή τον Έρογλου, κι ούτε από την «καλή θέληση» της Τουρκίας. Εξαρτάται αποκλειστικά από την δική μας πολιτική ηγεσία να ασκήσει τις πιέσεις εκείνες, μέσω αξιόπιστων συμμάχων, που θα εξαναγκάσουν την κατοχική Τουρκία, να μετακινηθεί από τα ιμπεριαλιστικά, επεκτατικά σχέδια της και να συμπεριφερθεί στα πλαίσια της διεθνούς νομιμότητας.
